- Everyone at my school's idea of a relationship: Someone asks someone "Will you go out with me?" and the other person says yes. They hug in the hallways, hold hands in the morning before the bell rings, and they kiss at lunch. They say "I love you" after two days. The whole school agrees that they are the cutest couple ever and hopes that they will last.
- My idea of a relationship: You start talking to each other and is in the "talking stage". One person asks you to go a date with them. You guys go a few more dates. You guys are dating. You guys act like a couple. You hug, you hold hands, you kiss. One person asks you to be their boyfriend/girlfriend. You guys are now officially a couple. You're in one of those relationships where you don't announce it to the whole world but you won't deny it if someone asked. You guys are comfortable around each other, you hang out outside of school. You say "I love you" when the time is right and when you actually mean it. You have a threeway with Satan. You agree that all other mortals are no better than the mud caked to your collective shoes and sacrifice the whole of your school to the Dark Lord as per his request mid-coitus. You rule the charred and ruined remains of your homeland with an iron fist. Together <3
omg no really but like one my favourite cast stories is the one I read about Karl stabbing Chris extra-hard with the prop hypos each take for revenge because Chris used to whack him in the face with his sausage hands during the breaks in between takes
Let’s talk about Khan for a moment.
I don’t pretend to be familiar with the classic version of the character so I speak only from what I’ve seen in this film. Given his back story, I feel there’s not enough exploration of Khan as a truly tragic character. He was made and bred to fight, and yet condemned to death for doing what he did best. He has nothing but his crew, his family - the seventy-two people who followed him into his frozen slumber. Upon waking, his first thought must have been a moment of joy at being reunited with them, until he discovered that not only were they still asleep, but being used to force him into what was essentially slavery. And worse, he was completely and utterly alone.
Savage as he may be, when he shed a tear for his friends, there was no question of its sincerity. He was a dangerous man, but it did not help that he was pushed and provoked and made exponentially worse by his situation. He struck back like a wounded animal, and he killed because when his family was in danger, no one else’s life mattered.
In the end he lost, and yet at the same time won a minor victory for himself - reunited with his family in spirit. The film did not explain what had happened after his capture. They could have executed him - superior as he may be, he is still mortal. They could have imprisoned him, or used him for his knowledge. But the way I see it, it was more likely that they offered him a choice, and seeing that awakening his crew was impossible at this point, he chose to go back to sleep, surrounded by his family.
